Byrd Legal Counsel is a law firm that believes in good corporate citizenship. Kim Byrd is a past Director of the Center of Tampa Bay, a cooperating attorney for NCLR and a volunteer lawyer for Florida Disaster Legal Services, offering free  legal services  to hurricane victims.

Several years ago, Kim Byrd recognized that some members of the Tampa Bay community experienced unique legal disadvantages. In particular, Kim saw that  certain communities have specialized legal needs, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Floridians. Kim further recognized the legal disadvantages of Florida’s unmarried couples including same-sex domestic partners and elder couples who choose not to marry for personal and financial reasons. Kim Byrd is intimately familiar with the difficulties faced by many members of the Tampa Bay community, especially in obtaining professional legal services.

Although representation of the LGBT and mobile home owner communities inspired the formation of our law firm, Kim Byrd and Byrd Legal Counsel, PA strive to advance the legal rights and protect the personal liberties of all people.

O. KIM BYRD, ESQ.
Kim is a native of the Florida Panhandle, having been born in Niceville and growing up in Ponce de Leon. He excelled in high school academics and moved on to the University of Florida after two years at Okaloosa-Walton Community College. While attending UF, Kim spent one summer as an employee at Disney World, where he learned a great deal about customer service.

Following graduation, Kim relocated to New York City to attend New York Law School. During his second year, he met his life partner, Brian Winfield, and they have been together for for the past 19 years.

Kim and Brian returned to Kim’s home state of Florida and briefly lived in the panhandle, where they lived on a small ranch with their two dogs, Aggie and Ellie, and two horses, Snickers and Red.

Kim, Brian and Aggie relocated to Tampa Bay in late 1997 because they recognized the friendly and welcoming environment Tampa provides. Both Kim and Brian are currently highly active community members.
